Terms of service

The rules for using the National Economic Index website and app. Please read the part about investment advice.

Last updated October 20, 2026

Agreement

These terms apply to the National Economic Index website and its iPhone, iPad and Android app (together, “the service”), run by Alexander de Royal. By using the service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

Not investment advice

The service provides general economic and market information only. Nothing on it is financial, investment, tax or legal advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security or other asset. Scores, regimes, recession signals and commentary are descriptive readings of published data, not forecasts. Make your own decisions and consult a qualified professional before acting on any information here.

Accuracy of data

Data comes from third-party sources (see data sources) and is shown as received and computed as described in the methodology. Sources revise their figures; data can be delayed, incomplete or wrong; and market quotes may be delayed. We work to keep everything accurate but can't guarantee it.

AI-generated commentary

Some text, including headlines, briefs and narratives, is generated automatically by AI from the current data. It is checked against that data but may still contain errors or omissions, and should not be relied on without checking the underlying figures.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for anything unlawful;
  • disrupt or overload the service, or probe, scan or attack it;
  • scrape or bulk-download data in a way that degrades the service for others. If you need the data, use the original sources;
  • misrepresent the service's content as your own, or as investment advice from us.

Intellectual property

The design, code, scores, written commentary and branding of the service belong to us. Underlying data belongs to its providers and remains subject to their terms, including those of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for FRED® data. You may quote or share individual figures and short excerpts with attribution to the National Economic Index and the original source.

Third-party links

The service links to news publishers, statistical agencies and other sites we don't control. We aren't responsible for their content or practices.

Availability and changes

The service is provided free of charge. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time, and it may sometimes be unavailable.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage, including trading or investment losses, arising from your use of, or reliance on, the service. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

App store terms

If you downloaded the app from Apple's App Store or Google Play, these terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google, who have no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms as they relate to the iOS app.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
